Dad's war
Barrie and
his brother Mark went to Arnhem in Holland in September to mark the 60th
anniversary of Operation Market Garden, the failed mission to take the
Bridge at Arnhem in 1944. As part of that campaign Dad had been dropped in by parachute with the First Airborne
Division. He survived the battle but was taken prisoner of war.
It was an interesting trip where we found out about the kind of things
he endured as the Allied Forces were out manoeuvred attempting to take
"a bridge too far". A very moving weekend.
